The Art of Analysis - A Thinking Paradigm Unlike Any Other

in #art6 years ago

Art is the freedom of expression and the ability to portray consciousness freely.

Although, often the more that someone gets into art, whether that be film, painting or comedy, one ends up seeing another new art.

One that has them hungry for more.

That is the art of analysis.

When Art Becomes Analysis

Have you ever heard the quote "great artists steal?"

That's one of the most famous quotes when it comes to anyone doing creative work or business.

The point that I am trying to make is that this quote is not in a literal sense of stealing work, a piece of writing, etc for your pleasure, but stealing through analysis.

We often think of stealing as taking X from Y.

That is stealing.

Walking into a store, grabbing an item, and walking out without paying.

On the other hand, there is a difference between utilizing another work for your ability to enhance your work's expression and what is commonly mistaken for stealing.

This is the same reason we can hear intonations of Kanye West in the new Kendrick Lamar album.

Great artists don't steal; they learn to analyze and incorporate styles and techniques into their own.

Skill Is Required For True Analysis.

That's where art critics, movie critics, and the like come from.

You must understand some skill, even if you can't perform correctly, to get to the point of critical analysis.

When a critic who can't perform the same as the artist they critique speaks out, people criticize the critic and their legitimacy because they can't make great art.

Although, just like a marksman needs his scout, a good artist needs someone to see their blind side or the skill to critique something. Which ultimately makes it better.

What was initially a means of improvement has become an industry that scares new hopeful creators.

Critics help, not hurt (unless we are talking about ratings.)

On the other hand, those that are currently creators and create well, add a whole different form of art to their analysis.

Using Art For Analysis

Take something that you recently have been obsessed with.

It has to reside in the field of learning something so that it can be art, music, computer science, etc., but it needs to be something that you are learning.

When you dive into learning something, you often end up realizing that there is a lot more to learn.

Its a beginner's mindset.

One that shouldn't go away if you plan on continually improving your craft, whatever it may be.

Now, we often neglect the fact that to analyze we use a form of art.

This free flowing understanding of information that makes us hungry for more and hands us our ass over and over again.

We have to conclude that our original conclusion is incomplete like Da Vinci returning to art 30 years later to touch it up.

This is the art of analysis.

A thinking model that requires learning from everything around us whether it be creating better music as the wind rustles the leaves near you, or setting up a supply chain by looking at how ants use their workforce.

We are fascinating creatures with fantastic minds.

Start using them.

And always question everything,

Austin
