Sketching my Walk
So I finally settled on a sketchbook kit: my old homemade “midori” traveler’s notebook filled with 3.5x5-inch Daler-Rowney sketchbooks + my fountain pen, water brush, and Cotman watercolors. I saw some “nature journal” ideas on Instagram, and so you may recognize some of the first page drawings from my last post.
As the ideas developed over the course of the week, I have begun sketchjournaling my walk with Jesus through images that arrive through prayer or meditation on His word and the teachings from our pastor.
This evening’s #sketchjournal entry. I wandered the length and breadth of our land, praying and chatting with Jesus about everything we’ve faced this week. As I’m walking with Him “in the cool of the day” (see Genesis), I’m drawn to these plants... And I get back to the house to finish sketching, and figure I should look up if they happen to have symbolic meanings. 😮 Uncannily, eerily, amazingly they DO... and not just that, when taken together, they answer my prayers as clearly as if someone spoke the words! 💕
Lavendar: purity, devotion, having serenity, grace (that’s a Biblically loaded word), calm
Mint: protection, affection, virtue, hospitality
Maple: love, longevity, representative of success and abundance (see Genesis 30:37).

I was happy to look at these pictures of you on Instagram, Heather. You feel good watercolor, and the experience will come with time.
