An eye into the painter's studio - City D-503

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Hi! Interested in the processus of painting a futuristic city with watercolor and ink? Here's an overview from an artwork that was supposed to be beamed during a theater piece inspired from Eugene Zamiantine's book "We". "We" was written in 1928's Russia and depicts a dystopic, mathematic-controlled and totalitarian society which later inspired famous authors like George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. Unfortunatelly the project of the theater piece did not happend.

So, here are the fist pencil lines and vanishing points. As you can see, I keep it simple because I know I will add a lot of details later.

Inking the basic shapes started and some the pencil is erased. The staples are used to hold tensed the (watered and now dryed) paper. I learned later about the kraft sticking paper, much more practical.

Begining of the colouring process. The yellow sludge is masking fluid. Masking fluid is great but you got to be very carefull with it. Only use old brushes as it ruins them. Use thick paper as it can rip it off when you take the mask out. Use soapy water to "clean" the brushes between application, it'll also dilute a bit and help spread evenly. And be well prepared to make the right moves as it dries very fast!

More layers of colour. I first avoided the parts where the sun hits, then starting filling them with light blue.

More, more colour and more ink too. At the end there's huge amount of layers.

That's it!

How sweet! Thanks a lot MeGy!

The future looks bleak, but the painting is wonderful.

I must admit I do have a really somber vision of the future :D

I think it's a pretty realistic vision of where the future is going ;) The best hope is to keep making people aware of where we're heading if we don't take responsibility and change. So keep putting your vision out there.

indeed without some kind of power, influence, leverage, one might find it out of reach to change anything but with art or other forms of expression we can at least question things and eventually push towards awareness

Let's hope we can change peoples minds in time.

Thanks for sharing this photography is very nice post

Thanks! You're right, these are truly photographies, of a painting.
