A peek into comic panel creation process

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemians, do you want to see how watercolor is used for the creation of a comic panel? This is how it's done at Haedre's berlin Headquarters.

So, first thing you should know is that I use 300g. Arches paper. I put it in water for around 3 minutes, then I stick it on a light board of wood with kraft paper. Once it's dry, it's properly tensed so all the water that I'll use wont make the paper warping nor having hollows.

So, it's ready for the penciling.

Then I ink it and erase the pencil.

Now the background.

And now I can start the coloring!

Et voilà!

And here's the definitive image after slight treatments and with the thought bubbles (Ok, this I do on photoshop with my own typo because my handwritting is actually horrible :D )

So I hope you found this interesting! Personnally I can't stop using paper and such "old" techniques, it's been pretty often that I've been told to use digital but then when will I be out of the computer? Let's add that I can also exhibit these pieces which is something that became rather rare in the comic industry.

Thanks for having read till here, if you digged this, you might check out my official website for more http://www.haedre.com

Amazing work. Especially thanks for sharing the process. I didn‘t know about „watering“ the paper.

Thank you @shortcut. I somehow found out about the watering technique after having done a few that warped and where hollows were forming, making unwanted stains, not mentionning the difficulty to frame them after. In case, you can still make watercolors flat again by spraying water on the back then putting them under decent weight! ;)

Thanks again. Those little tips are priceless ;-)

You're welcome!

Very interesting

thank you @stbrians! Will do my best to keep up ;)

Very amazing. Following you for further works.

Wow sir, thanks for all the new pencil ideas. Some George Lucas looking awesomeness.

You're welcome. Thanks for appreciating @dandays!

Awesome artworks bud! So glad that i have stumbled upon you! You have my attention now XD Keep it up!

Hey @megy.fine.arts, thanks for the kind words! Sure, I have much content to come ;)

Oh wow, that was very interesting... I never even knew there was such thing as tensioning the paper!

What a beautiful piece of work to, very impressive and nice way of showing the process. Thanks!

And this:

it's been pretty often that I've been told to use digital but then when will I be out of the computer?

Excellent!

Following you, I have to see more...

thank you @senorcoconut ;) To be honnest about the digital, I do continue traditionnal also as an opposition to the whole digital. I love the future and technology but I believe one must really pay attention, "science without conscience is the ruin of the soul"!

I am tempted to go digital or at least try it. I don't draw as much as I would like to but I understand what you are saying for sure.

Nice quote, I like it.

Again, beautiful work, so detailed too. It must have taken a long time, thanks for sharing it.

Digital equipment is just another tool. What's wrong is to think that'll using it will make the job easier.

Yea very true... it's like a guitar, if you can't play it you won't play any better with a nicer one!

Ah fellow illustrator, an instant follow!
Fantastic!

Thank you for sharing!
