Chetwynd Chainsaw Sculptures

in #art6 years ago

I've seen some pretty cool posts where Steemians show a little about where they live and I thought about showing a really neat part of this area. It's not the town I live in, (there will be lots to show when the weather is better) but it's the closest larger centre and somewhere we go to pick up the odd thing that we can't get here.

Most people have never heard of Chetwynd, British Columbia, Canada, but it's actually a pretty cool place to visit if you ever make it up this way.

(This is what started it all.)

As the title states, there are some chainsaw carvings in Chetwynd. Over 120 of them
You can read a bit about it right here

We decided to do it in blocks because then we could do it a bit at a time and possibly not overload you folks with amazing talent that you probably don't have. This way you could practice your carving skills in between posts and by the end, you will be on par with these world champions.

So far Treebeard is my favourite, but the detail on this next one by Robby Bast is right up there.

Pretty weird, huh? I don't know if it's attention to detail or a funny thing like an easter egg in a video game. Either way, I felt I had to share it.

You can sort of see the difference that time makes in how elaborate the art gets. The details seem to get way better too, but I don't know if it's people getting more talented or maybe the tools are getting more precise. Either way it's pretty durn amazing.

Here's an old one by Nyal Thomas of no fixed web address.

and this older one by Hiromu Kurita

You can see the difference between those styles and newer ones like this piece from Joerg Jung

Or this one by Hiromu Kurita that's a couple of years newer than the tiger.

So that's just a taste. We don't want to bore you with too many, but there's over a hundred more that we will put up every now and then. We might even venture out this year and try to catch the competition if we can. It's only forty minutes away.

Thanks for having a look.

Very cool! At the fair we have the “lumber jack show”, this reminded me of that.
I like the tree man the best.

Right on. The guy who carved it lives in Alaska, I think. Jordan Anderson is his name.

Cool! I looked him up, he has some cool works of art
