From Paintings to Screen Prints - Good Fishing X Raúl Guerrero

We recently collaborated with San Diego-based artist Raúl Guerrero on a collection of three t-shirts featuring artwork from a series of fictional travel posters he painted in 1988.

These paintings were based on references from his experiences living in Oaxaca, Biarritz, and Los Angeles. The imagery is characterized by a touch of nostalgia, and evokes a slightly mythical energy, both common elements throughout Raúl’s impressive body of work.

We'll be posting a bit of backstory about each of the three tees in this collaboration, starting with Oaxaca:

In 1984 Raúl went to live in Oaxaca, Mexico for six months, where he first began the process of teaching himself how to paint. His collection of paintings from this formative time were inspired by the vibrant imagery in his surroundings, as well as his personal thoughts on the dynamics of a post-colonial culture.

The Valley of Oaxaca - home to several indigenous groups dating back thousands of years - is one of the most diverse regions in Mexico. Along with its rich indigenous histories and cultural traditions, Oaxaca is marked by the presence of exotic Spanish colonial architecture, and an incredible artisan industry catering to an international tourist market.

Our t-shirts are all 100% organic cotton and ethically manufactured in a Fair Trade Certified factory in India. They feature a relaxed fit designed for everyday wear, sturdy double-needle stitching, and eco-friendly, colorfast dye. The ring-spun, combed cotton makes for a super soft hand, and the fabric is a medium weight jersey knit which has a substantial but easygoing feel. Screen printed with care locally in the East Bay.
