I paint plastic toy soldiers! #2
Nope.. still doesn't sound like something any girl would like to hear on a first date.
After the success of my previous post for painting minis I decided to do it regularly until I run out of material (even though I always have new projects.. posts will probably just come out slower). As I am quite new to this I don't even know what happened but my last post just exploded in a matter of minutes and what I learned after a small investigation was that a 'curators guild' has found me worthy and upvoted me to the sky. Thank you to whoever is doing that because it is so motivating finding out people appreciate your work.. To think I didn't even want to post anything that day and decided to do an hour and a bit before work.. almost got there late.
Anyways in my last post I did show you guys one of my very first paint jobs on miniatures I have recorded and ever since that I've painted a couple of thousands of miniatures and I believe I became a lot better painter in the process. What I want to show you today is some of my latest work which is a project I am doing for myself. I like to experiment on my own stuff so they always turn up being a learning project but since they are mine (unless I sell them lol) I have enough time to come back and give them a little touch here and there.
This is an army (ye ye I start sounding like a true geek) that I will use next week in the ETC wold championship for Warhammer fantasy battles (or known these days as the 9th Age). It will be in Salamanca, Spain and it usually is an event that gathers around a 1000 hobbyists playing the most known table top games in what is the biggest tournament of this kind. There are lots of indie companies having their little stores opened in the venue for the event (selling miniatures, paints and scenery), painting competitions for speed painting and of course almost a whole week of war gaming. It is nerd heaven I tell you!
What I am bringing with me is Orcs and Goblins. Last post I did show you Orks and Goblins from the 40k world (which is a futuristic sci fi world) and today I will be showing you the fantasy Orcs. They are the most fun army in the world of fun and (s)laughter that is Warhammer. In the story all creatures of the green skin race are actually plants that are growing. Orcs are the top of the food chain where goblins and grottlings are smaller, insignificant servants to their big brothers. They do not feel pain (since they are living plants) and that explains their vicious nature because they do not understand how painful it is for their enemies.. well dyin.. or getting chopped to pieces... To start off and show you how fun these models are - here are 3 'offensive goblins' taunting their enemies on the front line.
As you can see they are mean little fellas. These models are from Gamezone miniatures range and I bought them as soon as I saw them. The only thing I wasn't happy about what the fact that they are metal (I hate painting and using metal models.. will explain why in one of my upcoming tutorials).
This amazing model is from the range of Cadwallon Miniatures and I will use it as my goblin battle standard bearer. Another amazing metal sculpt that I had such fun painting (specially those patterns on the standard).
These mad goblins are called Goblin Fanatics. They come out of a goblin unit as a surprise to upcoming enemies and swing about in random directions (quite often towards their own people).
This is Wurrzag the Great Prophet. If anyone of you have played the Warhammer Total War game, this is a character that you might have seen there. A pretty good resin sculpt from Games Workshop.
These are normal Orc Boyz. They are the most common of Orcs and usually come in big numbers (I have 75 of these guys) so the quality of painting usually isn't too too high simply because you have at least a few dozens of models to paint.
This one I still have work to do on the base and around the spider but since I won't be taking him with me to Spain I've left if to rest for now. It is a Goblin riding a Huntsman Spider from Games Workshop. Goblins ride wolfs or spiders and they have these enormous Arachnarok spiders (I have 2) as well which I will be showing later on since I am not yet satisfied with.
It wont be a real fantasy world where the Orcs and Goblins don't have any Trolls going along with them. This is a River Troll from the Games Workshop range and every time I look at my river trolls I see more and more things I'd like to add paint wise. I have 9 of these and they are all quite different with different poses so I will definitely make a post showing them off once I finish them all and am satisfied with my work.
Goblins also ride these little Squigs and the riders are called Squig hoppers. There are gigantic squigs called manglers that you can use too and the models for them are amazing (can't wait to get my hands on one of them)!
These are Savage Orcs from Games Workshop. And well.. they are more savage and barbaric than the other orcs. They barely have any gear on them and all of their weapons are quite primitive made out of rocks wood and bones.
Well this one I am quite proud of (if you are following my blog you have most likely seen him). It is Azhag the Slaughterer and if you are a fan of Warhammer Total War you know who that is. I think it is by far one of my finest works, most likely because it is my latest.. they all tend to be better than the previous which is a normal thing I guess.
Before I finish this post I'd like to share what I am currently working at right at this moment which is another orc on a wyvern (basically dragons have 4 legs and wings on their back, wyverns have 2 legs and their wings are attached to their arms).
This has still quite a lot of work to be done on it but you can see kind of how it is coming to life. The wyvern was quite the experiment with the techniques and colours I used and it is a lot more greenish than it is on this picture (guess the mixture of my painting lamp and the room lamp did make it look quite pale blueish). I have less than a week to get it done as well as a few more models I am taking with me. Soo while I'm not at work or on Steem that will be occupying my time.
I do have quite a bit more Orcs and Goblin models but I want to give them a few more touches before I take photos and show them so I will most likely have a followup post with the rest of them. I will most likely start a tutorial blog on how to paint a model step by step, going trough the basics and then showing some more advanced techniques (this will probably be after I return from Spain).
If you enjoyed your time on my blog do not forget to follow, upvote and comment (I'll make sure to reply!). Hope you have an amazing weekend! Until next time!
george-topalov, first I wish to say what an amazing collection you have. Showing a girl this collection in my opinion would be the best way to show a girl who you truly are. What this post tells me about you is that you have that rare ability to follow your passions. You have vision and the ability to bring those visions into reality and in doing this, you chose to remain in a state of joy. You are a deep thinker and have the ability to put those thoughts down in writing which makes you a good communicator. You are not selfish as you find joy in sharing. You are not fake as you are not afraid to show your "true authentic self." You mean what you say and you say what you mean..My friend, any girl that shy's away from you is a fool and you should run like hell. You have all the qualities that are the foundation for a successful relationship. When you meet a girl with those same qualities, show her your miniatures that you so lovely transformed and tell her the story you just told us. Then find out what her passions are. Then YOU decide whether she is worthy of asking out on a second date. Mahalo for sharing a bit of yourself with this community. When you spend your time and your thoughts in constant joy, you can't help but succeed in every aspect of your life. When in doubt, always CHOOSE JOY!!
Thank you very much! I meant that pun more as a joke. To be fair none of my girlfriends have ever had problems with me being a nerd haha.. but that is a part of being in a relationship and accepting the other for who they really are and share their interests. Thanks again for the nice words! :)
And that is the very reason they do not have a problem with you!!
Those are excellent! It's been a long time since I've painted any miniatures. I used to have a ton of them. In fact, the last ones I painted were for WFRP. I never got into 40K very much - I always preferred the old swords & sorcery style of play. Sadly, I don't have time for it any more - but it's really cool to see that people are still up to doing all of this fun stuff I used to... :D
Thanks! I do prefer the good old fantasy too but lately don't mind 40k either. To be fair I painted a few 40k armies for other people before I got into it myself and still haven't played that many games.
These are some bad ass paint jobs. Most excellent.
Thank you very much sir! :)
Scary but cute little ones 😄. You have such a talent. Exciting what miniature items those stores might have.
Thank you! :)

Thank you very much! :)
Wow, you must have spent a fortune on even one of your collections. I am glad that you have found joy in your hobby @george-topalov, followed you.
Thank you for your kind words! I always try to find joy in everything I do, it is the way to find
