More than the home of Banksy, is Bristol the greatest street art city in the world now?

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Bristol in the UK is now arguable the world most beautifully painted city. Its become a huge work of art in itself changing year on year as dazzled onlookers watch some of the worlds best urban artists ply their trade. Probably best known as being the home of graffiti legend Banksy the city hosts street art events annually and artists travel from all over the world to attend. There are now professional tour guides that show tourists the art that covers the walls throughout the city, some famous and some hidden gems , its become a huge part of Bristol culture and must attract a lot of revenue to the city. If your a tourist in the UK then make sure to visit and take a look I'm sure if your a fan of art you'll be very impressed.

I stayed in Bristol back in 2001. Very cool city.

Hope you were made very welcome , thanks for comment.

I hate to burst your bubble, but no, it is not.
Most modern art just reinforces the standardized view of humanity wherein people are pigs meant to be slaughtered without hesitation.
We have all become slaves of the American Empire.

Your really not "bursting any bubbles" ..... Firstly graffiti isn't "modern art" its actually the oldest form of art its been about tens of thousands of years. Its also at its core very much a type of protest art form, like early hip hop its a way for poor people with very few materials to express in art form how disgruntled they are about the system. Also friend, this system of slavery you speak of relies on creating very rigid thought patterns that have people stating their opinions like they are facts, much as religions do .... that lack of open minded thought is what truly enslaves the individual and art in any of its forms is one of the best ways of challenging that. Thanks for your comment though :)

Your interpretation, is not entirely objectionable. And now my subjective interpretation: The economic prison we live in creates the need to express our objections to the reality of ever changing conditions. IMO most art tends to be some form of protest. Banksy does good work, though he is not alone, but I fear he has been embraced by his wealthy art overlords, Here is hoping they develop a conscience, but no guarrantee. He is already quite well known, though I suspect that his run won't end in death, like a Basquiat. I like these modern cave paintings spread across the world... it seems much more like a growing organism, like a some sort of intelligent bacteria gasping for air while searching for more space to expand and fill.

Oh well, and it's just paint on walls...

Some of them have been made on a very large scale and some look so real. Really impressive!!

Yeah and with it being a city of many hills alot can be seen from far away

Great stuff! If I showed you what passes for street art here in Tampa you might groan! :)

I doubt I would. I mean an attempt is better than nothing at all ...

Yeah I was just kidding, there's some good stuff here...

I love street art. Very inspirational. Thanks for sharing this detailed blog. I wish I can give it a try one day. Probably in a legal setting though. ;-)

Nice to know this. I will visit bristol soon.

Your welcome
