RE: Meet Native American Master Carver Jewell James ---> Southern Ute Tribe Totem Pole Dedication!!

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Im going to give this post the love and respect it deserves, (so excuse me whilst I continue to read and watch the videos), this is super interesting for me on many levels!!! Thanks for sharing @eaglespirit!!! I will get back with more relevant comments in a bit...

This Jewell James speaks like a wise man, I liked his flute playing and his engagement in the environmental cause and his inspiring thoughts on the general need for improvement of democracy...
But i didn't get what "Tokitae" was? Is it a whale or similar?
Sorry if I missed something...

Respect!

to be a bit more specific there was a mass whale killing in the washington whale herd and babies were ripped out their mothers for places like sea world. one still lives all the rest have died. its one of James’ mission to get that one back to her original herd. the whale is a sacred animal to this tribe and those in that BC/WA area of usa. all animals are sacred and a Being. he described to our group that this whale is part of their family and should be returned.

his journey entails so many journeys and support if mother earth. the totem poles, save the salmon, save the cedar trees, etc.

thank you for your wonderful comment and support.

I share the deep respect for whales. They are so intelligent and gentle!
But I hear that they don't do well once returned from ZOO to sea...

the hope is that the native american ceremony and spirituality if you will, to bring her back to the herd will work ... im not a specialist in this area but what ive done personally and seen seems to work.
we shall see, hopefully they let her retire since apparently shes been working non stop for 30
years, no space, no freedom, in the heat and small tank. im going by what he told the group. hes had laws passed and comes with an impressive resume so, that said i tend to believe him.
ive seen exaggerators and plenty of false sayers but hes the real deal. he would know imo if it could be done. if it couldnt he wouldnt be fighting or creating a totem pole or speaking in public about it.

im not sure how much you know about native americans but to speak out period is a huge deal, we dont just speak bc we want to hear ourself, there is usually a point to be made. especially when considering our history. typically we remain quiet, minding our business, and keep to ourself.

when a leader comes forth like James, its a way of honoring our ancestors and teaching not only Ndn people but those who inhabit mother earth.

okay got a bit carried away there LOL glad these questions came up bc people do look at these comments and if they see this maybe they will see and for those that know will nod for good words and encouragement.

blessings,

@eaglespirit

Well lets hope that the other whales accept the "new guy" he will not be able speak their language at first, (if taken at birth) and there might be complications, but lets hope things work out, it would be beautiful!

Thanks for sharing and respect to people like James all over the globe.
