Every day I have a need, an unquenchable thirst for creating art.
I must do something creative or it drives me loony tunes, then something, something special, something totally unique has to be brought into being.

The best way for me to do this is by creating Fractal Art.
Fractals are always unique, some may look similar to others, but if you really, really look closely, you will see that there are differences, most of the time quite big differences.

Numbers based in Geometry

The reason is because fractals are created from numbers, calculations which repeat millions of times, they take the answer from the first calculation and add it into the beginning of the next calculation, so this creates a sort of looping where the numbers are being reduced or recalculated with a spiralling effect.

You can think of the way trees grow, from roots in the ground to the leaves at the end of the branches up in the sky.
The calculations are creating the same sort of effect, spreading the calculation out but at the same time the structure is changing little by little from the introduction of Chaos.

Chaos is the Magik

When the chaos is introduced, it is giving the calculation a chance to go one way or another.
Like the roots of the tree, will they split into three sections/branches or five. Maybe seven?
Chaos decides, but when it does, the continued structure carries on with that shape until chaos changes again.
This all sounds like it must be complicated right? The truth is, if you want it to be it can be.

Taking The Less Difficult Path

You can have an understanding of how the calculations work and get into all of the working formula and scripts used to generate base images and you can use the editor like a menu and select certain types of formula, which are known as Transforms and Variations.

By choosing different transforms and variations and knowing how they act they can be used to build them into a whole image from scratch.

You can choose as many or little as you like and try fitting them together in different combinations and amounts, you can use the same Transform like this one above, made from several Linear3D transforms built up into a whole image and a palette applied to the whole.

It Is The Artist Who Chooses

By choosing every aspect of how you decide the image should look, you the artist are in control and not the computer program, which is your tool just the same as a brush, paints and canvas are.

When you have exhausted all possible ways which you feel look best, the image is then Rendered into a final graphical representation which you see above.
Some renders take minutes, some hours and some can take days, depending on how many calculations are required and how complex your image is.

I hope you have a better understanding of how we fractal artists go about creating this type of art.
Please comment or ask questions regarding this type of art, I am always happy to get someone new started making fractal art!

Thanks for looking!

I see such great depth, and character in this art, and I truly appreciate your thorough description of the processes behind making it. The analogy with the tree really helped me put this into perspective, and I will go forth knowing more about the beauty of numbers!
Thanks.

Thanks very much, glad you got a better idea of how I create this art, it is all about the art for me!
