5 Pointz
If you ever had the chance to visit the former 5 pointz site in NYC , you were probably in awe of the numerous styles of graffiti and other street art that enveloped the buildings of this complex.
The original building was a water meter factory in the late 19th century and then a leasing space for artists and company office space before morphing into one of the best outdoor mural "exhibits" in the country.
Unfortunately, in 2013, the developer who owned the complex decided to demolish the buildings to make way for luxury condos, despite protests, petitions and public backlash. To add insult to injury, the developer painted the buildings over BEFORE demolishing them!
I love graffiti and feel so fortunate to have visited 5 pointz before its demise. New York City was known for its grunge and graffiti in the 70s and 80's and Ill be honest theres alot of unglamorous things as well. Graffiti falls under the category of "NYC is losing its soul". Anyway im not going to get too much intthat right now. Have you visited 5 Pointz? There is alot of recent street art (mostly murals) but what do you think about NYC and its dwindling graffiti art?
I was
making search and didn't found out abt that place :( just went a bit around Brooklyn. Nice post
