🎨 Artistic space #40 - Derek Gores and his current collage
We will never cease to be surprised by New York, the cosmopolitan city, where there is everything, especially in art, despite being an incredibly cold city for its concrete, everywhere life sprouts, and it is the case that we will touch today, the life and work of Derek Gores, born in New York in 1971, is a graphic designer graduated from the Rhode Island school of design.

He dedicates himself to the collage that is his strength and with the technique with which he has obtained recognition as one of the best creators of contemporary collage, although he not only dedicates himself to the mentioned technique, he also has works in painting and sculpture. Like all good contemporary artists, he is commonly hired by clients such as ESPN Deportes, Lenny Kravitz, Lucasfilm, Kings of Leon, U2, NASCAR, Adidas, Virgin, Harley Davidson, 321 Agency, Van Halen, National Soccer League, LiveNation, SEIU, Amor Ropa Haight, and JCPenney, this reminds me a little of the effect pop art has left in time.

Derek Gores, usually does his work without the intervention of technological devices, so his collages are made 100% by hand, he selects the magazines to choose the areas to cut, so he also uses newspapers and other materials that he uses and adapts to his compositions. This work requires a meticulous patience for the large amount of material selected and ordered, as many discarded. This artist is influenced by other great artists such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Franz Kline, Rube Goldberg or Max Ernst, of course this artist is very accurate with his works because they are intimately related to our present time.

In his work there is an intricate message towards cinema, women and art in general, he is very passionate at the time of making his works, full of tributes, expressiveness and beauty, giving his personal touch, also dedicates a space to social issues, especially for the claims and struggles of the gay community.

This artist is very much to the trend therefore has an excellent website as well as active social networks where he gives intimate details of ideas and techniques, which help both viewers and art students, for example, one of the things that emphasizes is the use of varnish for each piece with the motive of sealing the work, giving greater durability, on the other hand, talks about not using cuts allusive to the object he is creating. This means that if he is going to make a mouth, he would never cut a mouth, he would use other cuts with different colour tones or grey scales or even textures to give the sensation of mouth. Usually does not cut to perfection but that the pieces selected with ripped as if it were a small child who rips a leaf selflessly. He's great, a real artist.

The only interaction with technology is not directly with the making and realization of the work as such, if not with photographs that he does himself, uses programs such as Photoshop to give greater control over the image by customizing each piece in a unique way, and then print is that makes the work manually.

He also makes mixed techniques, applying to perfection the collage carbon and water to create different atmospheres, is very free in the creation, is not limited to the use of a technique or the way to perform it. It is very free and spontaneous. All this is explaining in his blog that undoubtedly gives even more added value to the art he does, because it shows the possibility of teaching others common to link with art.
