Hi Steemit family!

Pieter Brueghel "The Old Man"

Today we continue with another of the great painters of the flamenco period, it is worth mentioning that this period was present in two countries, Holland and Spain, the latter being, in my opinion, the one that stood out for me in the pictorial genre. Today it is the turn of Pieter Brueghel "The Old Man". Accompany me to know more about this excellent painter.

Pieter Brueghel "The Old Man" born in the city of Breda, Holland in the year 1525 is now considered one of the most prominent painters in the history of art, his theme was focused on landscaping, which highlighted the peasant work, from the beginning I use as a reference to the master of masters Bosco to develop his style where the details of everyday life was a fundamental part of its development, we find ourselves before an exceptional narrative, in addition his trips to France and Italy would allow him to know more closely the painting of other regions where all Italian painting, followed closely the creations of Raphael and Titian.

source

He begins in the world of the painting as apprentice of Pieter Coecke that would help him to be linked with the guild of painters of Antwerp in the year of 1551, of there his undertaking like full time painter and his trips to different European countries to prepare himself, after seeing different rural places it was enough how to choose this motive as the primordial in itself composition, peasant towns and his works would make him recognized for painting a style little admired by that epoch, It is such the degree that is considered the first artist in painting landscapes with religious allegories. Painting in each season, his winter landscapes of 1565 being the best when portraying the harshness of the seasons.

Many art critics have compared his style with Bosch and his influence is evident, especially by the themes treated in his paintings such as the triumph of death which is very similar in composition to other Bosch paintings, a fantastic way of studying and painting.

source

As there is little information about his life, many art critics have studied him as an uneducated painter who devoted himself to satire painting but this does not match his style of organization, travel and contact with people linked to science, politics and art, in Italy he studied in a Sicilian workshop and also followed closely the Renaissance movement. We can note a clear example of mastery of technique and extensive knowledge of history in his most famous work, the Tower of Babel for which he composed 3 paintings of which 2 exist.

source

Perhaps the simplicity of his themes that were inspired by sayings of popular culture, served as inspiration proof of it are his paintings, "The parable of the blind" and "Children's games" even in "The wedding banquet". Religious motifs are what is painted without losing quality. I think that much of the non-catalogued that can be in art was due to the poor understanding of some artists and historians.

Pieter Brueghel had two painting sons, Pieter the Younger (Brussels, 1564 - Antwerp, 1638) and Jan (Brussels, 1568 - Antwerp, 1625). The latter was highly regarded as a flower painter and earned Brueghel's nickname of "velours" for his masterful treatment of delicate textures. The first made copies and variations of his father's paintings, often of high quality, with which he made a very good living.

He died in Brussels on 9 September 1569.
