Ilocos' Oldest Tobacco Maker by Marlon Ponsoy

The Philippines' heritage city, Vigan has raised a new remarkable artist in the person of Marlon Ponsoy. His interest in ARTS was developed at a very young age. Like other gifted children lads, he would rather grab a pen and paper and do sketches of what he observed around him unlike other kids of his age. Marlon at 10, started working as a newspaper vendor in buses touring their province. He was also a shoe shine boy on the side. Early exposure to hardship did not stop him to pursue his dream of BEING AN ARTIST. 

This is an extract from Philippines Graphic Magazine sent to me by Marlon for his introduction post. Tasked to chronicle his art works, I will be posting his original works, from his drawings, sculptures and his poems in his behalf. 

Since 2012, he formed a band name "ALINAGA TRIBE", alinaga is an Ilocano word meaning the first ray of the rising sun. His group's CDs are self-funded by Marlon. He also have ventured into the world music scene using different kinds of indigenous musical instruments around the globe.

A living treasure.

According to Marlon, she is one of the living treasures of Ilocos that he have known for how  many years now. His subjects are usually of ordinary people in his everyday life, who he said enrich him with their experiences.

About to embark in his next adventure of trekking the Philippines barefoot, he will be very busy to maintain his account. And if all his plans will pushed through, a book is also in the agenda for the whole of this journey, as well as TV coverages. More details to follow.

For the duration of his journey, he will be sending me whatever project or activities he may have. I will also be posting a few of his drawings as they are already in my possession.
