How to draw a nose - Structure of the nose.

in #art8 years ago (edited)

Hey~ I hope you have had a nice weekend.

Hello! Steemitians, as part of my studies for getting better. I started studiying the body, but as I want to make better faces, I startet with the nose. for doing that, I watched the video of the increidible Stan Prokopenko aka Proko. Down in the post, I'll let a link to his video.

What is a nose?

In this post. I'm going to relate you what I've learned from studying the nose.

- The nose -

Nose can give personality and characterize the face. it cames in many forms and many size, and it's so important if you want to draw / paint a face and want to make it reliable to the lifeform we see everyday.

1- Intro.

I started drawing as everyone else with manga/anime style. As you may know. mostly all of the anime characters doesn't have nose, because, for the aesthethic of the character, noses are not desire for make the character looks cute and kawaii.

Suzumiya Haruhi, is a good example. The nose is there because you know it must exist. but it's only represented with a little line or dot.

In other hand, Sebas is another anime character. But this time, he has a nose. The nose give him more personality and sense to his face.

I really like anime and I admire their work but, If you want to improve your drawings, it's important to study from reallity. When you understand all the normatives of the body and know all the rules. Then you can start to break them, and do what you want.

2- Major Planes.

The nose can be simply in 3 planes. The side planes, the Top plane and the Bottom plane.

When you turn the planes, eventually the top plane is getting hide to the point that only the side plane is visible.

The bottom plane gets larger when you up the face. the tip of the nose can cover a portion of the eye in this position.

When watching the nose from above, the bottom plane stay totally hide.

One of the most important thing I learned was this: translation

The line of the nose is in fact, the connection of the holes to the face, not the tip of the nose.

3- Anatomy.

Nose is mostly composed by cartilages.

This can be divided in 3 parts. The ball, the bridge and the wings.

* The ball composed by the Greater alar Cartilage, is the tip of the nose.

* The bridge is composed with the nasal bone and the lateral cartilage attached to the bone.

* and the wings, are the things at the side of the nose. Inside the wings, are the holes.

4- Minor Planes.

The minor planes are a simplified version of the anatomy but using as start point the major plane mentioned before.

This is the principal structure that must be remember, but is well undestood when you know something from the anatomy. From this point, is where you start to built your nose depending on where the light came from.

5- My practices examples.

Using the theory learned before, I made this examples. Here I let you my practices

6- Closing.

I hope in my posterior drawings I could draw better noses, but still. I need to keep practicing.

As I promised, here is the link to the Proko's video, where is detailed everything I wrote here and where I learned all this information.

Mostly what I did was to pause the video and make each drawing again myself. I Watched it like 3 times and when I forgot sometimes, I return, again jejeje

Thanks a lot for watching and stay by. Remember to leave a Like/Upvote if you like my content. This keeps me motivated to create more stuffs and let me know if you like my creations.

Thank you! _(:3」∠)_
