The process behind this painting.
Hello everyone! Today I would like to share some insight into the process behind my painting tittled:
‘A Beautiful Mystery’
Most concepts for my paintings come as visions. Ill see a particular photo or object and that will spark an entire vision in my mind.
I came across this photo:
And I instantly started getting flashes of possible arrangements so I began to paint her. Usually as I paint, the image in my mind becomes clearer and more intricate.
The lines on her face were inspired by the trees and wood. I love applying the patterns found in nature into my pieces. After establishing the basic portrait layout I then added a Harpy Eagle to the other side of her to set a sort of balance on the canvas. As for the background I decided to paint a symmetrical portal expanding and fading out into the darkness. Working from dark to light layers. I also decided to isolate certain colors. I believe each color vibrates at a different frequency giving off a specific energy/emotion. Its difficult to explain what I paint as it comes from deep realms within the unconscious mind. Places ive been. Dimensions within my self. It is all open to interpretation as there is no defined meaning but a vortex of infinite possibilities.
I also really enjoy creating my own borders/frame. And using strong contrasting colors to make it really pop. This painting was done using acrylic paint. A mixture of house paint and heavy body golden acrylic paints. It can be difficult to determine when the painting is complete as the details can go on forever but there is a certain feeling I get when I know its time to just stop and let the piece emanate.
