The apartment fire/ Der Wohnungsbrand

Dear Steemians,

as promised some „paperart“ today. And a little creepy story about this one:
heute wie versprochen ein wenig „Kunst auf Papier“. Und eine kleine Gruselgeschichte über dieses hier:

I painted this self-portrait as a kind of joke. When I was at the art-school we learned printing and during that time I shared a flat with two other girls. We had friends who shared a flat also, four boys. So one day we decided to swap one of each community for one week to experience life in the other flat. I was the first one to swap and I printed and painted this self-portrait to warn the boys, that I might have a hormonal, exceptional situation during this time, which returns roundabout every 28 days (it says: „Attention: Disturbed hormonal balance!“).
Ich habe dieses Eigenbildnis als eine Art Witz gemalt. Als ich an der Kunstschule war haben wir Druckgrafik gelernt und zu der Zeit habe ich mit zwei anderen Mädchen in einer WG gewohnt. Wir haben Freunde, die auch in einer WG gewohnt haben – vier Jungs. Eines Tages machten wir aus, dass einer aus jeder WG für eine Woche das Zimmer mit dem anderen tauscht um das Leben in der anderen WG zu erfahren. Ich war die erste bei diesem Tausch und habe dieses Selbstprotrait gedruckt und gemalt um die Jungs zu warnen, dass ich zu der Zeit in einem hormonellen Ausnahmezustand sein könnte (der der im Schnitt alle 28 Tage wiederkehrt).

„Haha“, I thought that was really funny. After one week everyone moved in his/her own flat-sharing community again. But the painting stayed at my door in the boys' flat. It was an interesting experience. And then one evening, one of our friends sat in our flat and we were talking, he got a phone call, that their flat is burning in flames... We ran there immediately and there were a few fire trucks. One of the boys was missing and I paniced, but later he appeared again. No one got hurt, except one of them had a light smoke poisoning, but the flat was destroyed. The room where the fire started was nearly empty after the fire, you could only see glas pieces (where the computer screen used to be) and the metalsprings of the matress. In the other rooms we could find cracked windows, a bent toilet seat, melted cd sleeves, burnt plants and clothes and plastik which melted into the, now toasted, toast and a milk package which hung from a melded plastic sting in the fridge.

I swear I'll never paint myself spitting fire ever again!

„Haha“, ich hielt das für sehr witzig. Nach einer Woche zog wieder jeder in sein eigenes WG-Zimmer zurück. Aber das Bild blieb an meiner Tür in der Jungs-WG kleben. Das war eine interessante Erfahrung. Und dann eines abends, saß einer unserer Freunde in unserer Wohnung und wir reden, bekam dieser einen Anruf, dass ihre Wohnung in Flammen steht. Wir rannten sofort dort hin und es standen ein paar Feuerwehrautos da. Einer der Jungs fehlte, ich bekam Panik, aber später tauchte er wieder auf. Keine wurde verletzt, bis auf einen, der eine leichte Rauchvergiftung hatte, aber die Wohnung war zerstört. Der Raum, von dem das Feuer ausging, war fast leer nach dem Brand. Man konnte nur noch Glasstücke finden, wo der Computermonitor einmal stand, und die metallnen Matratzenfedern. In den anderen Räumen fanden wir zersprungene Fensterscheiben vor, eine verbogene Klobrille, geschmolzene Cd-Hüllen, verbrannte Pflanzen und Klamotten und Plastik, dass sich in den (jetzt getoasteten) Toast reinfraß und eine Milchpackung, die an einem geschmolzenen Plastikfaden im Kühlschrank herabhing.

Ich schwöre, ich werde mich nie wieder feuerspuckend malen!

I broke of some charcoal from the burnt dooframe and thought I could use it to draw. I asked the boys if they would be okay with me drawing their burnt flat with their burnt door frame of it thats disrespectful to them. They liked my idea and that's what came out:

Ich habe ein wenig Kohle vom verrannten Türrahmen abgebrochen und dachte mir, dass ich damit malen könnte. Ich fragte die Jungs, ob es für die in Ordnung wäre, wenn ich deren verbrannte Wohnung mit dem verbrannten Türrahmen zeichnen würde, oder ob sie es als respektlos empfinden würden. Ihnen gefiel meinen Idee und das ist, was dabei rausgekommen ist:

By the way: They couldn't find the cause of the fire but they assume that it was a cable fire or a curtain touching a glowing lightbulb. My self-portrait was lying directly behind the entrance on the floor. As you can see hardly damaged except the footprints of, probably, the firemens boots.
Übrigens: Die Brandursache konnte nicht gefunden werden, aber es wird vermutet, dass es ein Kabelbrand oder ein Vorhang an einer heißen Glühbirne war. Mein Selbstbildnis lag direkt hinter der Eingangstür auf dem Boden. Wie man sieht kaum beschädigt, bis auf ein paar Fußabdrücke von, vermutlich, Feuerwehrstiefeln.

Am I supposed to feel guilty? Sollte ich mich schuldig fühlen?
