Drawing Mulan

When I passed the entry exam for an animation program in Montreal I later learned that it was by the skin of my teeth. The reason was that I lost a lot of points in my copy of Lil’ Lulu. I lasted a year in that program before I was outpaced. This has been a chief motivation for me to teach my kids how to copy someone else’s design. Because if they ever wish to enter the industry, it will prove necessary. I still celebrate their individuality, it’s not like I’m training them to become elite illustrators. I just want to provide them with the tools they will need should that be the case. Some wanted to see my demo, how I start with basic shapes and construction lines but most wanted to draw it their way. It is so convenient to have them draw from my IPad Pro which is light and I can carry around in my backpack. I have 10 kids this session which makes me very happy. The one’s in the back have a hard time seeing the screen but we manage. The first one is my drawing followed by 2 of my students age 7 to 12. If an adult were to see my drawing they would think it is good but THEY think it’s fantastic and when I went to give it away they all raised their hands eagerly. I am so priviledged to have them as my fans in a world that has seen it all. It is an energy I hope to always have in my life.
