The Whistler - The Bestiary

in #art7 years ago (edited)

¡Hello Steemians!

At last, I'm back with a post that has nothing to do with contests. This time, I wanted to bring back a project that I sort of left abandoned for a couple of weeks... But it's still alive and well.

Today I come back with the second edition of The Bestiary.

For those that don't know about it, this project is basically a platform get people to know about Venezuelan folklore... because i think it's fun, complex, creative, and rich; not everyone knows that.

But well, this time I bring a very famous character from my country, but significantly less friendly than the one from the last Bestiary.

Today's character is...

El silbón... The whistler...?

Who?

The Whistler is said to be the ghost of a man that got cursed by his own mother for killing his father.

He was condemned to wander and whistle for the rest of eternity. He is also said to punish any drunkard or womanizer he runs into.

Perhaps, The Whistler is the first recorded male feminist...

Appearance

Those who have been lucky enough to catch a glimpse of this ghoul say he's long and skinny. Other than that, he's said to wear a big hat and a bag, where he supposedly stores his father's bones.

Without a doubt, these characteristics make me think he could try his luck as a model.

Habitat

The Whistler can be seen wandering through the Venezuelan plains. It's been said that he's supposedly more active during the rainy season, which is when he walks through the savanna looking for victims.

During drought he prefers to sit by near tree trunks... Maybe he just likes to take advantage of the sun to get a nice tan.

Abilities

This ghost has the mysterious power of... whistling. Although it's not your regular whistling. It's been said that his whistles sound really close if he's far and vice versa. Other than that, his whistles sound similar to a musical scale. (If anyone's curious about how it's supposed to sound, here's a link.)

But honestly, I think he's trying other methods to terrorise his victims in this day and age...

Maybe he has a smartphone and he uses it to troll strangers in social media. There's no worse way to get someone to feel personally attacked even if you are not physically close to them.

Here's a bonus GIF!

Afterword

Thanks a lot for checking out the second edition of The Bestiary... I'll try to post this regularly.

Now, I'm gonna take the chance to ask:

Do you have any creature in mind you would like to know about in a future post? Don't hesitate to tell me if you are a fan of any other myth from the Venezuelan folklore.

Again, thanks a lot. Eden out!
