Today (August 8) is Father's Day in Taiwan. It seems for most places on this planet, people celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday in June. Only people from Taiwan celebrates it today. Why? Well according to this source in Chinese, it has something to do with ROC's (Now in Taiwan) war with Japan. But for an obvious reason, as Wikipedia describes it, is...

In Taiwan, Father's Day is not an official holiday, but is widely observed on August 8, the eighth day of the eighth month of the year. In Mandarin Chinese, the pronunciation of the number eight is ba, and the pronunciation is very similar to the character "爸" "ba", which means "Pa" or "dad". The eighth day of the eighth month (ba-ba) is a pun for dad (爸爸 or "baba"). The Taiwanese, therefore, sometimes refer to August 8 as "Baba Holiday" as a pun for "Dad's Holiday" (爸爸節) or the more formal "Father's Day" (父親節).

今天是台灣的父親節，除了打電話回家給老爸之外，我自己也當了爸爸幾年了。對了，台灣的父親節，或是親切地叫「爸爸節」就是在八月八日，似乎是世界唯一的，大部分其他地方的人是在六月第三個週日慶祝父親節的。從發音你很快可以知道為什麼選這一天，但如果你真想搞清楚，可以看看這裡。

The Book

Actually I just want to share with you a great sticker book of my son's. He has accomplished many very creative works with stickers in that booklet. But the credit mostly goes to the design of the book. The book is originally from Japan and they have done a really good job for setting up these artistic exercises for kids!

不過，今天其實只是藉由節日主題，想分享我兒子的一個貼紙書的內容，以及他的一些創作。這本貼紙書真的非常棒，我們買了好幾本。是日本設計的兒童貼紙書，設計得很棒，非常有創造性，也非常有美感，讓孩子們可以用這書創造出令人驚豔的作品喔！

Let's have a look at the game! These are the front and back covers of the book. Basically, this book provides you with lots of stickers of facial parts and you, the kid, can choose any combinations to form the faces you like on the object pages.

讓我們一起來看看吧！下面是書的封面跟封底。基本上，這貼紙書就是提供給孩子各式各樣的五官貼紙，讓他們可以自由選擇，在給定的一些物品上，組合成任何他想要的臉！

These are the facial parts sticker pages. They aren't scary. Actually pretty cute, like strawberry as nose, all colorful and boldly designed. Seems to me that you may produce an ogre face or a pretty girl's face out of them! Some are empty because my son had already taken them out.

下面是提供各種貼紙的頁面。有些空了是因為被我兒子用掉了。看看，五官貼紙聽起來很恐怖嗎？其實很可愛捏，色彩繽紛又充滿創意，看來你想做出香港第一美女或是大怪物的臉都有可能喔！

The Mushroom Face - I love the cap as hair! (we do call someone's hairstyle like this a mushroom here in Taiwan) And this face just looks so innocent!

香菇臉－這頭髮很酷吧！台灣常常有人頭髮剪壞了變這樣就叫做香菇頭的！但這顆香菇頭好無辜喔，很想保護他！

The Flower(?) Face - Well, this one actually looks a bit creepy to me, but I can feel that she is trying to tell us something... lol

花朵臉？－這... 似乎看起來不是太... 花朵... 有點恐怖，但那眼神似乎想訴說些什麼的...

The Sock Face - Haha! Indeed it is my favorite of all faces! So with a crown on its head. Such a warm, innocent(silly) and genuine face! It doesn't sock at all! :)

襪子臉－我最喜歡的一張臉！皇冠戴得非常合理！看看它如此溫暖、無辜、真誠又有點傻氣的臉！真不捨得穿它在腳上了吧？

The Conclusion

It is so fun to create different faces with various kinds of facial parts. Humans are indeed very sensitive to human faces! You will be amazed by your little one's ability to create all kinds of faces beyond your imagination! Happy Taiwan version father's day everyone! :)
