One Man's Trash...

Ghost of the Grizzly Tree by Bev Doolittle

A few weeks ago I took out the trash. This is a task I rarely do because I have a valet trash service in my community. After disposing of my garbage bag I spot some objects laying next to the dumpster. I investigated and I found three paintings in sturdy well crafted frames. I picked up the largest frame; it had some heft. I looked at the work and upon closer inspection I couldn't discern wether it was a painting or print. The work was in a western/native american style. I liked the style of the works. It looked retro to me. I knew the art wasn't very old but at least thirty to forty years of age. It had a old faded comic book page appeal (if that makes any sense). The framing was beautiful with arrowhead inlays. I like art; but I'm no expert, as evidenced by my crude description haha.

I quickly scooped up my bounty and returned to my apartment. I didn’t even wait for the elevator. I ran up a few flights of steps (ever so carefully), smiling ear to ear and into my apartment. I wanted to ensure I didn't run into the original owner (in case he or she was on the way back to the dumpster filled with regrets for trashing these beauties). Thankfully I didn't run into that person or persons; so the artwork now belongs to me. I really like the artwork. As the old saying goes one man's trash is another man's treasure. The adrenaline rush of the score combined with my competitive nature made the salvaging feel like an art heist. It wasn't though.

Spirit of the Grizzly by Bev Doolittle

After a quick google search I found out the artist is Bev Doolittle. According to wiki she is an American artist who depicts the American West in her work which features landscapes, Native American life, wild animals, and horses. She primarily works in water color paints. From my quick search, it seems her work is of some value. All in all this was a great score because I like the work and it was FREE. I still have to get these appraised. Hopefully, I will do so in the near future to see its true/relative value. I will then decide wether I want to sell or keep the artwork. I will keep you updated as this develops.

Double Back by Bev Doolittle

The images shown throughout the post were pulled from the internet. I do not own them. I posted them so you can see the detail of the art with clarity. Between the prints/paintings I can't decide which one I like best. What do you think? Here's a shot of the actual pictures and the frames that I took. Take note of the arrowhead inlays which I think is a pretty cool touch.

What do you think of the art work? Who would trash this? Please up vote / comment and share your thoughts.
