I always liked art made from woodcuts. These were made by making a piece of art on a piece of wood. Carving was used to cut away any undesired parts of the art so it could be used as a stencil. Ink would be applied to all the raised areas of the wood and then pressed into paper or other surfaces and leaves the outlines of the art.

I have a book called The History of the Devil and the Idea of Evil by Paul Carus. It has many pieces of art depicting Satan, God, angels, humans, demons, etc. and many of these were made using woodcuts. I took some inspiration from those artworks to make this image, sans woodcutting.
