Amazing Ancient Rome Discovery: Burnt House with Attic Floor and Furniture Remnants.
An incredible archaeological discovery was made in Rome recently.
Subway excavation works have revealed the remains of an ancient house (dated around 2nd or 3rd century A.D.) which was destroyed by fire.
In addition to discovering fine mosaic artworks and painted plaster, it is the first time ever that remnants of a Roman attic floor are detected. In particular, wooden beams and furniture were identified.
Finding preserved wood fragments from Roman times is a very remarkable discovery in itself, as only under exceptional conditions (e.g. Pompei) wood can withstand 2000 years underground...
The skeletons of a dog and his puppy were also found.
In Rome, the remote past can surface from underground any time to remind us that all we do and fight for is just a detail in the overall human adventure. I feel that living here (or in other places with such a rich past) is a privilege.

Amazing
They should probably start thinking about alternatives to underground public transportation in Rome. The digging progress is taking ages.
