"This Old House"
Bob Vila, the host of the PBS series “This Old House,” did me the honor of adding one of my oils to his art collection some years ago. In return, when I painted this watercolor, I thought it fitting and proper that I pay respect to Mr. Vila by using the same title.

This old Iowa farmhouse was on the same abandoned acreage I blogged about a few days ago. It was (and I think still is) owned by a family named Stoakes. It was their home for many years. Then overgrown with weeds and trees, the buildings were slowly disintegrating due to neglect. Fortunately, before it was all bulldozed and turned into a grain field, I took hundreds of reference photos from which I've created quite a few paintings.
Since I grew up only two miles down the same road on a farm very much like this one, I have a heartfelt connection to places like this. I hope this comes through in my paintings.
More to come,
Lee
