The Jemez River
The Jemez River northwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico, is one of my favorite subjects to paint.
I love painting river rock scenes. They are exciting and inspiring to me. I've painted them for years and I never tire of doing them.
The Jemez River is especially wonderful to me. There are many rocks and small waterfalls with fallen trees as depicted here. The intensely blue sky of the American Southwest filters down into the shadows and creates beautiful violets. This heightens the contrast with the warm sunlight.
