"Hondo Fields"
Painted on location near Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico in 1986.
This painting is unusual for me in that I normally don’t like “views” as subjects, i.e., I’m mostly attracted to closeup studies. In this case, however, I was high on a hill overlooking this scene and liked the way the road meandered back to the house, disappeared from my view, and then went up the distant slope and out of the picture. I also liked the color pattern of the fields. A few grazing cows for spice and of course the fence posts…I always liked the fence posts around Taos!
