What's Your Excuse? Why Can't You Draw? (MY NICHE) Materials needed for art beginners, tips on how to draw.

in #art6 years ago

Hey guys! Today I'm going to be showing the simple intricate details on how to draw! You've tried so many times. You've looked at some amazing piece of art and felt this heat in your heart, only to get a few scrappy lines when trying to do the same. Finally you gave up. Let's be honest, you don't have talent! Or a tablet. Or better manual skills. But do you really need it all? THE ANSWER IS NO.

Firstly, I'll be sharing with you the materials you will need to begin. Pencils, erasers, and drawing paper of your choice! Just these 3 things are sufficient enough to give you a very good drawing!

Notice that I only seem to be showing pictures of Staedtler Mars Lumograph brand? That's because this is what I personally use for my drawings. Doesn't mean that you have to. Any pencil works just fine!

All you need to do is to find something relatively simple to draw. You don't need to immediately start off with imaginative drawings. Life drawings are easier!

  1. TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR PENCIL:
Take control of your pencil by holding it correctly. IF you position your hand closer to the end of the pencil, you have more control and precision, but heavier strokes (darker markings). Gripping further up the pencil will give you less control and precision, but lighter strokes (lighter markings).

  1. USE VARIED LINES:
Not all lines are equal. Subtle shifts in the width and darkness of your lines will create a dynamic, visually interesting drawing. Controlling the kind of mark you put down can be tricky in the beginning, but with practice you will be able to create a variety of marks that work together to make a cohesive image. Experiment with different pencil grades (from 3H to 6B) and with holding the pencil at different angles.

  2. MIX THINGS UP WITH IRREGULAR LINES:
The use of irregular lines when shading adds a lot of dynamism to your sketch. If you want to create a fresh and unique sketch of a portrait, architecture, or concept art, you should definitely use this technique.

  1. CREATE YOUR OWN STYLE:
Your problem is that you might feel you can only draw things other people have already created. Your drawings never look like something truly yours. But that's a wrong way to think! You can and will be able to create something all by yourself. Yes, you can make use of a reference picture, but by adding little glitches here and there, you can own that drawing! 😀

  2. MEASURE THE PROPORTIONS:
Learn to see proportions everywhere. Look around and ask yourself - how long are my fingers in comparison to the palm? How many heads can be put in a row along my dog's back? What element of the face could fit perfectly between the eyes? This training can be done in your spare time, and it increases your concentration. Also, with time your eyes will learn to do it without your awareness!
If you have problems with recreating sizes (for example, you draw two identical circles and they're always different), don't avoid practicing it. Draw these two circles as long as you can draw them identically, then try the same with triangles, squares and so on. This problem must be solved before doing any other tutorial, since it's the base of other skills. The Internet is full of simple, step-by-step tutorials that don't teach any real drawing skills, but they're great to practice proportions. Start with the simplest pictures for children and move on when you feel more confident. Again, don't go further before establishing these basic skills. Nothing strong can be built on a weak base.

And that's it! These are simple and easy tips from me to you about how to start drawing. So what's your excuse? None! You have everything that you need, and if you don't, they are very easy to acquire. Remember to always keep your creative juices flowing! I hope this post proves useful.
