A piano interpretation

Steave Swallow

Steve Swallow was born on October 4, 1940 in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Swallow has long been the favorite electric bass of many jazz critics, because he played his instrument in a very rocky way. Swallow emphasizes the high notes and his electric bass, approached a guitar.
When he was a teenager, he started playing piano and trumpet before deciding on the acoustic bass. Swallow joined Paul Bley Trio in 1960 and with Bley was part of the avant-garde version of Jimmy Giuffre 3 during 1960-1962. Swallow recorded with George Russell and was a member of the Art Farmer Quartet (1962-1965), Stan Getz's band (1965-1967) and an important edition of the Gary Burton Quartet (1967-1970).
This last group (beginning with the entrance of the guitarist Larry Coryell) was in fact one of the first fusion groups and it was also during that time that Swallow began to play electric bass; Within a few years he stopped playing the acoustic altogether.
Swallow spent a few years in the early 1970s living in northern California, a period he played only in the area. From the late 1970s onwards he joined Carla Bley's groups, although he occasionally worked on other projects (including a Jimmy Giuffre 3 meeting).
Steve Swallow also proved to be a talented composer creating works like "Eiderdown", "Falling Grace", "General Mojo's Well Laid Plan" and "Hotel Hello", among others.
