Telling the story of art with technology: the MUVIG case

in #art6 years ago

In recent years, digital technology has taken giant strides, favouring new promotional ways of products and events, but what happens when you decide to apply these new digital practices to the art world? known examples have existed and continue to exist, such as exhibitions and events made with the support of virtual reality, creating an immersive experience, as in the case of the Van Gogh Alive exhibition, which ended in Bologna in October 2017.

Art and technology, especially the combination of art and virtual, continues to arouse many controversies in the Italian scene: although every day we live virtual reality experiences, we think even just banally about the photographs we take and publish in real time on the social profile, when we enter the artistic field, we start to turn our nose a little 'wrong, considering technology and virtual, as forms of loss of the aura of art, to recall Walter Benjamin.
What is considered to be the most science-driven can become a huge support for the art world, and Muvig is tangible proof of this.
MUVIG acronym of Virtual Museum of Garofalo is a brand new reality, the first in Italy, a virtual museum dedicated entirely to an artist, the Ferrara-based Benvenuti Tisi da Garofalo (Garofolo, 1476 or 1481 - Ferrara, 6 September 1559), who tells the story of art using only technological tools.

Located in what tradition identifies as the birthplace of Garofalo, in the town of the same name, in the province of Rovigo, Muvig was born mainly for one reason: to collect in its rooms the most important works of the painter from Ferrara, all works scattered around the world, some collected in the art galleries of Ferrara and Modena, others in Brera in Milan, others in Rome and some abroad in Germany and Russia.

Digital technology has come to the rescue of art to collect virtually all these works in one place, transforming them into multimedia format. Its rooms represent an incredible work from the technological and historical point of view, allowing you to deepen the life of the painter and his painting technique through cutting-edge media.
High definition projections, interactive interfaces, virtual books, 3D reconstructions and immersive 360° experiences, everything has been created to guarantee a unique and real experience, even if digital, in which the visitor can move in total autonomy and deepen the aspects that interest him more.
