What is Bitshares?

BitShares has several layers that can serve as an explanation. Because of this complexity, I will only introduce what I believe are the most important bitshares information.

Blockchain

Viewed from a distance, BitShares is a network of individuals' computers around the world running BitShares software and synchronizing the database according to the rules of the software. The BitShares network survives as long as at least two computers can communicate over the Internet. The network of decentralized computers ensures that the database is safe from failures. Every single computer on the network has a complete copy of the database so nobody can change the public register. This unchanging public registry becomes the foundation for more layers of BitShares.

Open Loader

Is probably the best known. A ledger is a database that contains account balances and transfers between them. Bitshares Open Ledger can also handle cryptocurrencies. The big difference and advantage over other exchanges like, Poloniex, Bittrex or Coinbase is the decentralization! This means that all payments are made without the intervention of a central institution.

The "BTS" is a cryptocurrency token which can be transferred between accounts and is used to collect fees for network operations and as a collateral for loans.

According to the developers, the platform should be able to manage 100,000 transactions per second, which is an extremely high number. In comparison, VISA can manage about 24,000 transactions at maximum utilization.

The current market capitalization of BTS is $ 1,016,324,452 (87,519 BTC). 1 BTS is currently $ 0.38 worth.

BTS brings because of the versatile application possibilities, still a lot of unused potential!
