The Burj Khalifa, known as the Burj Dubai before its inauguration, is a megatall skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft) and a roof height (excluding antenna) of 828 m (2,717 ft), the Burj Khalifa is the tallest structure in the world since topping out in late 2008.

Construction began on 6 January 2004, with the exterior of the structure completed on 1 October 2009. The building officially opened on 4 January 2010.

Critical reception to Burj Khalifa has been generally positive, and the building has received many awards. In June 2010, Burj Khalifa was the recipient of the 2010 "Best Tall Building Middle East & Africa" award by the CTBUH. On 28 September 2010 Burj Khalifa won the award for best project of the year at the Middle East Architect Awards 2010. In 2011 Burj Khalifa was the recipient of the "Interior Architecture Award, Certificate of Merit from AIA – Chicago Chapter". Also won the "Distinguished Building Award, Citation of Merit from AIA – Chicago Chapter" and many others.
