Pisces - Graphite drawing and Acrylic Blender : colour experiment.

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Hello !

Following my previous post about acrylic blender and graphite tests, I thought it would be interesting to share a few steps of the process.

For this I started a new drawing from fresh, on a wooden tablet covered with Gesso (there are a few previous failed experiments buried under that white layer, but shhhh ! :D )

Then I did a few rounds of my favourite game :
1-Acrylic blender
2-wait for drying
2- paint washes
3-wait for drying
4-go back to #1

Blender's step is often a stressing stage : brush strokes stay visibles after drying, and unleveled areas render differently at light, so better take a few minutes to make sure everything is ok before letting it dry.
D.tube video shows a bit of these steps.

I did these rouds until I had something decent...

...on wich I could try again and again the same stuff... Just to see how faded - but without drowning it completely - coud become the painting under these layers,.

That's all for today :)

Have fun, and take care of yourselves !
Cheers !

Very cool 🤘🏼✔️

Thank you, @jbajunior ! :)

Hey berin, I love it! I have a question since you used graphite for the drawing layer, did you fixate it before started painting over it with acrylic paint?

Anyways, great result with the colors, it has a bit of steampunk feeling which suits the gritty style very well. :) Hope to see more. :)

Cheers

Thanks @dm7 :)

The drawing is made on wood, and tend to be be far more resilient than on paper, so no use of the usual graphite/pastel fixative .

It needs to be protected though, and that's the job I gave to acrylic blender (can be seen at 30s or so in the video).
When dried, you can use brutal tools like glasspaper : graphite won't get away easily (useful to get to get a damaged/worn out effect)
Just be sure it's dry before starting to work over it though :)

Hope it'll help :)

Yes it definitely did! Thank you! It is really lovely! :D

I found a kindred spirit here! Great way to work!
