BEASTLY TALES

TO BE, OR NOT TO BE?

Helen Highwater checked into her lodgings,
A modest hotel, to avoid well-to-do dodgings.
The “Fancy Set” always stayed at the Grande,
Money trickling through their fingers like sand.
Helen Highwater was of quite modest means.
She couldn’t live like Royalty and Queens.
“A penny saved, is a penny earned.”
As she grew up, such pithy comments she learned.
Her colleagues at the Nerd’s Convention she saw,
Turned their back on her, showed her the door.
“You’re not one of the Inner Set,”
“So, out of here, yourself, you can get!”

Helen Highwater didn’t say where she was staying,
She didn’t want to give fodder to her critics out there braying.
The fact that she was rejected by the In Clique,
Was clearly enough to make her feel sick.
“I’m as good as the rest of them, even better!”
“They don’t like me ‘cos I’m not a go-getter.”
“But I’m a Nerd, just like them,”
“And my inner-Nerdism from within does stem.”

So she returned to her lonely, somewhat dismal hotel,
Determined to, at the Conference, tell.
As a Key Note Speaker, the facts of the matter,
Free from innuendo, and spurious chatter.
“As Nerds we always want to be the best!”
“Go out of our way, to pass the Nerd test.”
“People respect Nerds, for what they represent.”
“And because Nerds are known to be content,”
That auditorium now erupted in applause,
So much clapping and supportive roars!
Helen Highwater had no choice but to pause.
