BEASTLY TALES

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW

Elvira Indignant knew not what to do,
She had been compared to an outraged shrew.
Indeed she did possess a longish snout,
But the shrewishness didn’t come from that, no doubt.
It was more from her insistence on, so often, scolding,
Any who she conversed with, so to embolden.
She had failed at being anyone’s wife,
Being constantly scolded, criticisms rife.
A trifle off-putting, to be quite sure,
Scolding was in no way, any man’s lure!

I have a strong character, she did often lament,
But being of firm disposition doesn’t closeness cement.
If I do continue, at every opportunity to natter and nag,
Time will pass me by, leaving me a sad old hag!
This is probably something to avoid,
Loneliness in old age, life’s meaning devoid.

Elvira met a man through a dating concern,
He seemed most well founded with money to burn.
Francisco Acquiesce was his salutary name,
Handsome, successful, not open to blame.
Elvira fell for him, head over heels.
She noticed how well he performed Irish Reels!
In fact, she could, in him, find no fault,
If he had any downsides, they kept in a vault.
Not a thing to criticize, certainly not scold,
She would not have believed it, even if told!
“This is a man, I could plan to marry,”
“Someone not requiring readjustment, no need to harry!”
Could such a realization, a real to do!
Result in that most famous Taming of the Shrew?
