THE MEDICAL ALERT

Feeling some significant elation,
Following the ingesting of medication.
But what kind of tiny white round pill?
Made Lester Flummox less of a dill.
A tranquilizer could have such effect.
A calmative, with soothing tones, as you’d expect.
“Have you taken your medication?” people would ask.
But Lester Flummox had his hip flask.
“A snort or two never did hurt.”
“It makes one loquacious, rather than curt.”
So Lester would sip his beverage of choice.
Chattering away in a high pitched voice.

“Lester, have you been drinking again?”
“You know full well, it’s not good for your brain.”
“Why don’t you stick to your little pills?”
“Plain and simple, just no frills.”
“Doctor,” Lester Flummox did say,
“I need some repeats on this prescription today.”
“No repeats on this,” the Doctor replied,
“It’s a Benzodiazepine, a potential slippery slide.”
“You could become dependent on this,”
“So when you don’t take it, it won’t be bliss!”
Lester Flummox thought for a while.
Suddenly he came up with a smile.
“Let me see if I have this right.”
“This drug will help me to sleep at night.”
“Not sleeping properly is bad for the health.”
“But the drug that helps is only available by stealth.”
“Insomnia is thought to be a preferable course,”
“Than popping a pill, from which we have a divorce!”
“So a repeat prescription you have refused.”
“No wonder I am so very confused!”
