BEASTLY TALES

THE ARCHAEOLOGIST

Archibald gave no apology,
That his training was in archaeology.
He loved to find in deep dug trenches,
The bones of ancient blokes and wenches.
Pottery pieces, bits of rubbish to most.
‘Sherds’ they are called, he would fondly boast,
Are the elixir of the antiquities study,
Dug out from trenches both deep and muddy.
One day he found the most stupendous mosaic,
Put him in raptures no way prosaic.
But best of all were coins, particularly Roman,
A discovery that disappointed absolutely no man.
One day in Mesopotamia he found,
A substance of glass, delightfully round,
He carefully plied it from the earth,
It was clear glass of moderate girth,
He carefully dusted it and washed it in water,
Doing everything an archaeologist oughta,
Some hieroglyphics he barely made out,
And then jumped up with an excited shout.
“This must be from the Bronze Age time”,
What a find, a discovery sublime!
He called in his colleagues, an assessment to make,
Carefully examining it down to minute flake,
A specialist in ancient hieroglyphics did view,
The item in question, and other things too,
“The “Find of the Century” this appears to be”.
Thought Archibald, “I can’t believe it’s happening to me”.
It is worn by centuries of desert sand blasting,
But is so well made the damage it’s outlasting,
Then after this huge “to do”,
The Hieroglypher turned up, another clue,
“The faint lettering has a pigment of red”,
“Not usual in a Bronze Age find” he said.
“It must be so rare of a quite special kind”,
A marvellous, spectacular, wonderful find”.
They then brought in an ultra-violet light,
Which gave the learned assembly a terrible fright.
The lettering became so much more clear,
It said “Cola Cola”. How very queer!

Such a cute and entertaining way to send a message.
Our ego blind us so many times in overestimating situations and ourselves. :)
Namaste.
