DR Fleischnacht Is Ready to Operate! - A guide to amateur stone carving

First of all, take a pair of extraordinarily cool reflective sunglasses; to protect your eyes of course, but primarily to ensure that ancient crafts such as stone masonry are rocketed in to the mainstream alongside Top Gun.

Next ensure that you wear a sinister looking mask; obviously to ensure that you don't breathe any dust in, but more importantly to terrify your neighbours when they peek over the fence to ask what all that banging is. Assure them that the area has been quarantined due to the outbreak of a deadly virus and continue to make unneccessary noise.

After 5 or 10 minutes your stone sculpture should look a little bit like the Buddha in the background of this photo:

.....If it looks more like the lump in the foreground then you are a failure and you should give up now.

As you can imagine it takes AGES to carve stone and so Im leaving it here for now;

....Kind of a grumpy one - which you'll understand when you try stonecarving for yourself.

My pro-amateur tip of the day IS: if you're stone is as soft as this one is (I don't know what it is, someone gave it to me) then its actually quite nice to just scrape it away with the tools instead of using the hammer. Its a bit slower but SO much quieter and makes for a peaceful and absorbing afternoon in the sunshine that in my opinion, beats the hell out of gardening.
