Step By Step How To Draw - Action Bronson

Hey everybody!

I would like to start by thanking each and every one of my followers for your support so far.

I joined this wonderful community about a week ago and already flew past the 200 follower mark!

I just finished up this action Bronson drawing and thought I would share my process with you all.

I hope you guys might learn something and possibly even try this out yourself.

Alright, so lets get started

As always start with drawing your basic shapes, spending time and attention to the exact angles of the lines. Something to keep in mind is an over exaggerated feature is better then an undefined feature. so if your reference image has a big forehead (which action Bronson does) then its not going to look right if it's not drawn in such manner to highlight that feature. The same goes for noses ears eyes ... I think you get the idea. Make sure that you outline the area that will be the darkest shadows, like I have done on the right side of his face. This makes it easier to visualize where you are going with things.

Pay very close attention to the line weight in the eye. Proper line weight can mean the difference between a good and a great portrait. notice how the lines at the top of the eye are darker then on the bottom.

Start to shade in the darkest area of actions beard. Add depth to the shadows on the face take note to where the shadows are lighter and darker, good range of shade in your art work is important. Add fine squiggles on the edge of the beard outline to make things start to look more organic.

Use a very light pencil and add a few more squiggles for chest hair.

You can now either use a fine tipped eraser or fine tip paint marker to highlight the white reflections off his beard. This is the final step.
