"If the world is to be saved it will be up to the children." ~Itzhak Perlman

in #art7 years ago

The talented violinist, Itzhak Perlman, had polio as a child and wears leg braces and uses crutches as a result.

He had an amazing thing happen at one of his concerts. He walked onto the stage slowly because of his disability, and sat down in a chair. He began to play. Just as he finished the first few bars, one of the strings on his violin broke with a loud snap. He only had three strings left.

Everyone waited for him to leave the stage, but he did not. Instead, he closed his eyes, waited a minute, and then signaled the conductor to start.

It was common knowledge that it was impossible to play a symphonic work with three strings, but Itzhak Perlman refused to believe that.

When he finished, there was total silence for several seconds and then a huge outburst of applause and a standing ovation.

When it became quiet, he was asked how he did it. He told the audience, that "Sometimes it is the artist’s task to find out how much music you can make with what you have left."

You are like the artist who exceeds the expectations of common knowledge to create harmony and learning.

People will not be perfect. They must be taught. We are each unique. Some of us have "broken strings" of lost hope or special needs. You too, can bring out the best qualities in yourself and help others do the same.

Use the strings you have to make beautiful music. Do it for children.
