Drawing a Geisha with Chinese Ink and Graphite Pencils
Hello, dear friends of Steemit, here I am again with another drawing, made by me a while ago, in a totally different way than what I am used to doing. It is a combination of graphite pencils and Chinese ink, a technique that at first I did not find a way to combine it, but along the way I managed to get both techniques complemented in one.
I made this drawing as a thank you to a dear friend and colleague of Chinese calligraphy, a person who gave me a collection of special Chinese inkbrushes for Chinese ink. When she gave me these brushes, I was impressed and motivated to create something and for that reason, I decided to give her a drawing, but not any drawing, It had to be a special one, in which I captured what her wanted (a geisha), what we practiced (Chinese calligraphy) and what I did best (graphite pencils), once I analyzed everything I started painting and without resting I finished it . It is worth mentioning that the reaction that had no explanation, I can simply say that she is fascinated with the result.
The materials I used for this painting were: HB pencil, 2B, 3B, 6B, 8B, a brush of fine bristles and pure Chinese ink.
I started doing the most basic thing, being that way, the sketch of the character. This I did with a HB pencil, since to make the sketch it is advisable to use a very clear pencil, because the sketch consists of very clear guidelines. After having made the sketch, I proceeded to better delineate the drawing with a darker pencil, this can be a 2B pencil, since this one in comparison with the HB is much darker.
After having outlined the sketch, I proceeded to draw the trunks of the bamboos with the same pencil that I used for the sketch. Therefore I began to give lights and shadows to the kimono and the body of the geisha, for these shades I used pencils 2B, 3B, 6B and 8B.
To blur, I recommend doing it with the sides of the pencil and not with the tip, that is, with the pencil very tilted down, this will give more realism to our drawings.
Finally, with an 8B pencil I proceeded to draw the hair of the geisha, I also reinforced details in the character with Indian ink and with a brush of fine bristles. It is worth mentioning that with this same brush I painted the leaves and branches of the bamboo.
Thank you very much for taking the time to see the art that I love doing, I hope you liked this painting, if you want you can tell me that you thought about this drawing in the comments.
