Raiz: Meaning in Spanish, Root
Hello, my dearest Steemians, today I bring you my first distance interview, it is a character related to art that impressed me very much. Come with me to learn about the life of one of the most important visual artists in graffiti murals in Brazil according to my appreciation and evaluation.
His name is Raí Campos, known in the art world as "Raíz". Paulo Afonso- Bahia was born and currently lives in Vila Pitinga in the heart of the Amazon jungle and is 27 years old.
I started to follow him on Facebook about 2 years ago I was struck by the style of graffiti mural I was developing which has an ecological theme of nature preservation and uses as icons symbologies of the Brazilian aborigines.
It should be noted that this art beyond the technical is content and the content in South American art often tends to be impregnated with foreign technique and content. This is due to the permanent transculturation and stalking in the psyche of international media messages and, of course, it is worth mentioning what we study in our university classrooms.
Raiz: "I've always been linked to art, because my father is a plastic artist, so I grew up watching my father paint pictures and murals.
Graffiti identified him at the age of 11 when he saw a painted ice rink. The love was love at first sight reviews Raiz.
He also stressed that his art has no meaning in itself, but if there is a strong connection because he grew up in a mining town in the Amazon rainforest and within the lands of the Waimiri Atroari Aboriginal people, it was there that he grew up in full contact with nature and the little contact with the Waimiri Atroari Aboriginal people that made him rethink the daily struggle of this honorable people to keep their culture alive. That seemed too natural and genuine to him. Raiz even says that when he first went to the city, he realized that urban society lost its connection to true human nature.

It was then that this great and young artist decided to settle in the heart of the Amazon rainforest to paint its mysteries, its magic.
I asked the muralist what was his criticism of South American art? To which he responded that it has evolved and receives much international attention. Many of the continent's artists are representing the region as a whole, conquering more and more spaces and sharing with the world the culture of this ancient place told by their own people through different artistic disciplines.
He has been accompanied by many South American natives who are artistically manifesting themselves in collective projects and exhibitions.
Raiz in his works portrays faces of the Brazilian Amazon, faces of different aboriginal tribes. It also incorporates decorative and ornamental elements which are an in-depth study of its indigenous and ancestral designs. It also portrays some of their work, their religious customs and their customs in general.
There is a clear interest of this young artist to maintain a strong bond with the origins of the people who lived in tranquility with their eternal before the arrival of the Spanish invaders, these decimated the population. It is estimated that the genocide carried out by the Spanish empire left some 60 million aborigines dead.
The nature and preservation of the environment that surrounds them is recurrent in the work of Raiz, who is undoubtedly one of the greatest exponents of South American art today due to the wealth of visual elements that he incorporates in each piece.
