Digital Art Practice - Surinam Toad (Pipa Pipa)

As we all love weird looking frogs and toads, here we have Pipa pipa. It's native in South America and luckily is living a good life with no fear of extinction.

On the photo the Pipa pipa is attempting to hide in fallen leaves with poor success, as we can see. The frog is extremely flat, so I wouldn't be surprised if it actually would go unnoticed within the yellow-brown leaves.

One extreme specialty of this toad is how it reproduces. It doesn't lay eggs anywhere, instead the eggs are released and attached to the back of female. The eggs sink into the skin and they live in the mothers skin even as tadpoles. As they are are adult toads (not full size though) they emerge from the pockets within their mothers back. Then they live happily ever after and the mother sheds the skin to start all over again.

Nature is beautiful.

Sort:

great :) it looks like a bread loaf. why is that?

I'm not sure but it only adds to it's beauty. Maybe it can now blend in a bread store to avoid predators?

"The frog is extremely flat"
that's a pity. toads deserve tits ...

It's not a pity. I prefer my frogs like I prefer my women - flat.

They're the ultimate beauty. Most of the best things in the world are "flat": pizza, flat bread, pancakes, lamborghinis..

@christianuger makes a good point, is this your spirit frog as it looks like bread loaf frog?

Well it would be my spirit and companion animal, but it's growing frogs in it's back....
So no please.

What if you grew bread in your back instead?

I approve of this recent uptick in frogposting.

Well we all need more frogs and toads in our lives.
They are better than our wives.
The best friend of the man is froggo,
Not always just the doggo.

I'm assuming bread was originally born when a native saw a brown frog on the ground and thought "That looks really awesome.. I wish I could make one myself".

Classic human history right there!!!

This is also how I ended up baking bread.

It was my love for frogs.

Next time.. frogs with dicks!

Hey Apsu. Are you sure it wasn't a loaf of bread with seeds on it and then the legs went on as an after thought.

Sometimes I do put my seeds to the bread and bake it, but so far it hasn't grown legs and eyes.
You do have a good point there though.
