The Egg Hatches
This is the final illustration of my book Kaos Hieroglyphica
Whilst it is a fine ink pen drawing, I was going for something of the look of an old alchemical woodcut print. Depicted is the world tree emerging from a dragon egg, along with its dragon spirit. The roots are marked with the planetary symbol of Pluto, to emphasise their underworld connection. The outermost branches represent the heavens, and thus contain the other planetary symbols. Only Uranus is missing, the egg , dragon and tree standing in for this planet.
The egg also stands in for Mercury in the alchemical tria prima and for ether in the five elements.
I like the concept and the execution. Dragon looks cute, if you ask me. :D

Yes. It remains one of my best examples of this kind of drawings to this day. A rare inspiration. Perhaps I should delve into alchemy more often. :)
