Chaos Monkey warns of Danger
In this picture I illustrate a story of the author, Jaq D Hawkins, wherein as a child she felt what she calls 'the monkey' telling her to slow down on her scateboard before going out into the quiet street at the end of the road. She normally bombed into this quiet street but on this rare occassion she felt a pull holding her back. Sure enough a fast car zoomed passed that would have hit her had she behaved normally.
Herein we see a paradox. The monkey trickster nature is what causes us to live on the edge in the first place. It puts us in danger. But then it also gives us the warning we need to stop, if we are able to listen...
I took a bit of artistic license with the house and car. The window has many artefacts from the authors own home, and a couple of my own.
I think "My Monkey" is way to chaotic to bother warning me about anything.
I only hear its laughter.
Yes, they can have a wicked sense of humour. Still, you're alive to tell the tale, so I'm guessing it didn't need to intervene in this way. Let us hope you never need to rely on them doing so all the same... ;)
