Because we all need booties in our life!
Ever wanted to draw a good butt, but never knew how?
I'll introduce you a 10 minute way of getting there. And yes, it also takes 10 minutes or less to draw ;)
Just in case you are wondering... yes, this took me 10 minutes to draw/paint... but fairly more to write this whole post (something like 2 hours... this is why I think writing is cool but sometimes less worthy... I could practice so much more and get SO much better if I could take this piece of time I use to write. But hey, here we are! You are worth it ;) ).
For the beginning, I tend to do a base drawing and go from there. In the past I used to do three to four cleanings of lines, which now that I think about it was insane because of all the time it used to take me. I'd be like two hours for doing this ass I am bringing to you (which again, I did in ten minutes only).
I don't usually use geometric bodies on the canvas for drawing. Yet I absolutely think about them and try to visualize these while doing my base.
Just as you can see on the .gif, I thought about a prism for the gluteus, two cylinders for the legs, a cylinder for the lower back and abdomen and finally another quadrangular prism for the upper body.
This is super useful because it fulfills a double function: it shows the perspective (mostly in which direction the volume occurs) and gives symmetry (which I put only on the gluteus figure, sorry I forgot about marking it on the others).
Once you got a solid base it's time to move on. No time to waste.
You probably ended up with a figure that looks pretty much like the first versions of Lara Croft (yes, square titties).
Now it's time to fix that, to make it smooth and soft. To make it look like flesh you can grab.
It's important to also understand that there are few things happening under the skin. It's not just a bubble going on there. It is flesh, muscle, fat tissue, bones and endless stuff that I don't have idea.
Don't look at me! I m not doctor, bro!
Something really useful to help the eye of the viewer to perceive the volume of the object, asset or character is to add lines on the direction that the volume occurs.
In this case I used lines that go along with the legs and the booty as some design pattern. So I killed two birds with one shot. Poor birds.
The first set of lines were done through the center of mass of each section of the lady (or each geometric figure we named before), so we keep the symmetry and keep the drawing clean.
Regarding to the second set of lines was drew at the half of the first set. This way we keep that organized.
Our eyes are really mathematical and always look for symmetry and beauty on balance. Trust me on this one.
The rest of the process is just to make it more appealing.
Just put some shadows here and there, a highlight to make it more obvious where the light comes from (and make the whole thing look more yummy!), some dark areas and light areas to create a pattern with more contrast and you can call it finished!
You can also put some tiny minimalistic background behind the character/asset to make this last one pop up.
Just remember that is thanks to the contrast that you make this happen. Therefore if you have a dark main object you may want to add a light value and if the object is light you may want to go otherwise.
Not much to say, that's all folks !
Thanks a lot for your support and I see you in the next one!
(All the images are my own creation and so I own the rights of them)
I always try to listen to the ideas of my fellow followers to improve my posts and to give something back to the community... therefor: What would you like the next posts to be about? What should I talk about? What kind of painting? Would you like some tutorials about arts, about cooking? Maybe some fresh gaming broadcast? I would love to know!
Bye!
Nice to see other people with the same issue of of a few minutes for the art and a few hours for the write up. At last now I can practice drawing some butts, thanks.
Oh man, I feel you... my practices take just a fraction of what it takes to me to do the whole post, it hurts! But this is the only way to get known here around ;)
I'm going to be applying this in drawing my girlfriend's butt 😂
Dude I learned from my gf too xD
amazing as usual :-)
Gracias querido !
I am a simple person. I see a butt. I upvote
Jokes aside
Using a prism is such a good technique in getting the shape in! Informative!
Hahahaha I love this "see a butt I press upvote", it kills me xD
Thank you I love the butts hahahaha
I know that struggle! Gosh xD sketch over sketch over sketch untill i was nearly sadisfied
But in the end everything looks pretty well ;)
Dat butt !!
Oh si!
👍
Amazing.... !
Great idea man thanks for the advice.....
