I visited my painting buddy Sam last year in Queenstown, with my goal to paint some mountain scenes. There is no doubt if you like to explore beautiful mountain scenery the South Island of New Zealand is perfect place to start your journey.
It was one of my most inspiring place I visited, they say if you visit there once you don't want to leave. The pure fresh mountain air is joy to the lungs.
One of the highlight of my trip was visiting Milford Sound. Respect for Sam for driving us all there and back (nearly 600km) on the same day.It was worth it.

Milford Sound is simply took my breath away. After seeing it in person I understand why artists like to paint this subject over and over. It was a windy afternoon, and the hungry sandflys came out at the end of the day biting into our flesh.

Ticked my bucket list, this was my first attempt to paint Milford Sound in extremly windy conditions fighting with the sandflys, but it won't be the last one. It could be improved but I'm quite happy with it.
Sitting there for an hour or two observing the details of the scene, and putting it on canvas makes it a special memory, much more precious than a photo.
