In Indian weddings, 'Mehndi's night' is one of the most important rituals before marriage. It is not only a fun ceremony prior to the wedding, but its cultural importance is also very deep.

Traditional Ritual: Healing a bride and groom before marriage before marriage is one of the oldest traditions of India. However, in this ritual, elaborate designs of henna are made on the hands and feet of the bride. Whereas a small vaccine of henna is applied in the form of shagun to the dulhan.

This is followed as a tradition of marriage, in many parts of India, as well as in neighboring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. Mehndi is also very popular among the Muslims. According to Islamic literature, Prophet Muhammad used henna to color his beard and used it in the treatment of the sick. From this point of view, the ritual of Mehndi is celebrated in the Indian subcontinent and in many Arab countries as an important ceremony of pre-marriage.

Mehndi is the daughter of marriage bond and therefore, it is considered a 'omen.' It symbolizes the love and affection between the couple and their families.

Here are some popular beliefs associated with this tradition:

The dark color of Mehndi shows the key and understanding between bride and her mother-in-law.

For as long as the color of Mehndi remains on the hands of the bride, it is considered as auspicious for newlyweds.

Mehndi is also considered a symbolic representation of reproductive ability.

Also known for medicinal properties:

Its coldness relieves stress, headache and fever. Mehnih is also very beneficial herb in enhancing the nails. Therefore, a bride and groom are given a henna to get relief from the stress of marriage. It protects from any potential disease occurring before the marriage.

Mehmini ritual:

Mehndi's ritual is very colorful, beautiful and full of noise. Various practices of different families occur during the rituals. Usually this ceremony is completed a day before the wedding and it is often organized with 'music' program. Bridal and other women in the family have a rhetorical design of henna on the hands and feet. This is an opportunity for both families to have fun, dancing and eating.

Modernization of design:

Over time, the traditional design of Mehndi has become more complex and decorative. There are many designs of Mehndi now, and among these Rajasthani and Arabic designs are more popular. Now Mehndi is applied with crystal and shiny. Each elegant design is very complex and especially can be made for the bride. Now these complex design patterns are quite popular among brides around the world.
