Salt Mines. Steemfest. Sketch. Markers
According to the program of Steemfest, on one of the days we had a visit to the Wieliczka Salt Mines, not far from Krakow. These mines were discovered in the 13th century and until 1996 rock salt was mined in it. In the Middle Ages, the income from this mining was one third of the treasury of the Poland!
Tourist visits to the mine began in the 15th century, but only selected and privileged persons could get there. And from the 18th century, access to the mines opened for everyone (who could pay for a ticket 😏). The active use of the mines began in 1826, when sanatorium bath salt was open. It works until now).
We managed to visit several tunnels on the 1 and 2 levels (there is about 7 levels in total). We began descending into the mines along wooden stairs. This is more than 50 spans! 😱
The biggest point of our trip was the Chapel of the Holy Kinga. It is located at a depth of 101 meters. There is even a copy of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. 😳 The depth of the fresco is 13 cm.
We looked at the work of the wooden gates on horseback. We saw how the miners lived in the days when work in the mines was just beginning, and 👌 listened to the history of these caves.
After the tour, we were all taken to a cave called the Warsaw Chamber. It is located at a depth of 125 m. There are often closed corporate parties, fashion shows and conferences. This is where our dinner was held. Have you ever eaten underground?
I imagined myself among the dwarves in Middle-earth))) Unforgettable feelings!
All my paintings can be bought for sbd/steem
