History of Buchaechum Dance
Buchaechum is taken from Korean, Buchae which means Fan and Chum which means dance.The traditional dance of Buchaechum itself originally was derived from ancient rituals thousands of years ago which was displayed at a worship ceremony to the gods of Korean Shamanism. Korean shamanism itself is an ancient belief of Korean society that also combines beliefs and is influenced by native religions such as Buddhism and Taoism.
Basically, the Shaman itself is synonymous with ancient shamanism. In Shamanism's own ritual, the Dancer will hold a ceremony of development or gut, in which the Mudang (possessed) will act as an intermediary between the god and man with various purposes such as, the occurrence of healing and various fortunes.
Usually in Korean traditional dance, the fan is used as a side property only. But in this dance Fan is the center. Quoted from Inspired Steps, Kim Baekbong was mentioned as the bearer of this dance and performed it in 1954. The dance focuses on showing the beauty of the neat arrangement of the dancers' fans.
Along with the development of the era, Buchaechum Dance got support from the government and society to continue to be preserved and developed.
Buchaechum dance also changed function not only displayed for the purposes of religious ritual ceremony only but performed in cultural arts events, festivals, festivals or in annual celebration events. Buchacheum dance became a traditional dance at the reception of state guests. Buchaechum dance is also growing and varied movement imitate the beauty of nature such as the movement of waves in the sea, flowers, and butterflies are flying wagging soft wings.

The Characteristic of Buchaenchum
The uniqueness and characteristic of this Buchaechum dance movement is when the dancers form a circular formation and use the fan forming a bumpy movement, forming a flying butterfly and cascade of flowers in the wind make this dance movement very beautiful. This dance is more elegant with traditional costumes and headdresses resemble the crown of each dancer's head. This Buchaechum dance combines visual arts and elegance. So it is not wrong if this dance became a very famous Traditional Dance of South Korea and is often featured in annual events, festivals and state events.
