Not A Banana

in #art9 years ago

So I watched this BBC documentary about contemporary art and found it quite amusing. It was a blend of so called art and finance. Rich personalities were having support from their trustworthy art advisers, mainly which paintings to buy so they can sell them later.

I am in no way able to critique much less analyse art of any kind but the documentary, fittingly called "Banker's Guide to Art", opened my eyes a little bit about what is going on there. I very much recommend this to you. It's very reminiscent of stock or currency speculation.

Anyways, I had my own little contribution to add to this secret world. It's not a painting but a render I modelled in 3D. It's called Not A Banana.

Let me try to explain it the best I can [in the language and spirit of art connoisseurs shown in the film.] This work incorporates the sad reality, where nothing is true. It thrives on its subtle complexity and yet the artist is able to reduce it to the most basic view. I like its sadness, I like its poetic energy.

By the way, I do not hate contemporary art, nor do I want to diminish its meaning and history. It's just the way the richest see it that annoys me - and the artists drawing / painting / spraying exactly how they feel they'd sell it.
